Bayern Munich beat Boca Juniors at Club World Cup after Kane, Olise goals: Live updates and reaction
No knock on TQL Stadium, which is a lovely modern little soccer arena home to a great MLS side in FC Cincinnati. But Hard Rock Stadium tonight is about as different as a venue as you can get from Bayern Munich's Club World Cup opener. Even setting aside the vast cultural differences between the cities of Cincinnati and Miami themselves, TQL Stadium has a capacity of 26,000 and has hosted... four USMNT matches, three USWNT matches (all friendlies) and a 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup match between Guatemala and Jamaica. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, on the other hand, seats 75,000 and has hosted six NFL Super Bowls and over 30 international soccer matches, including the 2024 Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia. It stands to reason the team that calls the similarly prestigious Allianz Arena home might feel in a bit more familiar surroundings tonight — at least, until they look up into the stands and see the very vocal contingent of Boca Juniors supporters on hand.

📚 Unique milestones to watch out for this weekend in MLS
After the Round of 16 of the 2025 US Open Cup dominated the midweek fixture program across the United States and Canada, MLS action is set to return at the weekend for matchday 15 after an enthralling Rivalry Week. With the race for the Supporters' Shield remaining as tight as ever while action across the East and West write their own stories, let's get into some unique milestones to watch out for this weekend. They say home is where the heart is, but for Wilfried Nancy and the Columbus Crew, an away day has never been more enjoyable for the Eastern powerhouse than during the 2025 season. Right in the thick of it at the top of the pile along with the Philadelphia Union and FC Cincinnati, the Crew are right on track to remain one of the top sides in the Conference, but a win on the road this weekend against a struggling Charlotte FC outfit could see them level an MLS-record 12 undefeated away matches. With the Crown coming into matchday 15 as the most out-of-form side in MLS, you would bet the house that the Crew comes away with all the points in the bag. 📸 via MLS Communications Cristian Espinoza has quietly become one of the most dangerous attacking players in MLS over the last five years in the Bay Area, and his tally of assists is proof positive that he knows how to pull a string or two. 📸 via MLS Communications The Earthquakes, now under Bruce Arena, look like a side that is determined for a post-season birth, with Espinoza's creativity chief to those efforts, but a piece of personal glory is on the line at the weekend against the Houston Dynamo. With just one assist, the 30-year-old Argentine would become just the third active player in MLS to hit the 80-assist mark, further cementing his place as the all-time leader for the club in the process. After an impressive 3-0 win against in-state rivals Inter Miami last weekend, Orlando City are one of the form sides in the East coming into matchday 15, extending their unbeaten run in 2025 to 11 matches in the process. 📸 via MLS Communications Hopeful of feeding on their recent result when they lock horns with a talented Portland Timbers side in front of home support at Inter&Co Stadium on Saturday night, Óscar Pareja's troops have a chance to pull level with the club's standing record of 12 matches unbeaten, while also potentially climbing into the top three in the East depending on results elsewhere. Most football fans love a tight-knit race at the top of the table, and thankfully for those of you who watch MLS, the 2025 season has so far delivered that and then some coming into matchday 15. 📸 via MLS Communications Coming into the pending weekend fixture list, four clubs - Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Vancouver, and Columbus - have a chance to equal or better the 30-point mark at the halfway point of the season, a feat that has never been achieved in an MLS campaign. Here is what each of those four clubs face this weekend: The Philadelphia Union hosts Inter Miami CF looking to remain top of the East. FC Cincinnati travels to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face off against Atlanta United. Western Conference leaders Vancouver take on Real Salt Lake away from home. As previously mentioned, Columbus travels to Bank of America Stadium for a clash with Charlotte FC. And finally, we head to Allianz Field and budding Western Conference outfit Minnesota United and their lofty perch of sitting second behind a much-talked-about Vancouver Whitecaps. 📸 via MLS Communications Despite their ability to perform as a collective, key man and shot-stopper-in-chief Dayne St. Clair has been sublime in goal for the Loons up to this point, posting seven clean sheets in just thirteen appearances, and should he pick up his 8th of the season, he would become just the 10th goalkeeper in MLS history to achieve that feat after 15 games. Impressively, St. Clair would pad his chances of picking up Goalkeeper of the Year honors as well, with Tony Meola (2000), Donovan Ricketts (2010), and Tim Melia (2017) being awarded the same after a similar or better run of clean sheets. 📸 Editorial Photo Credit: © Darren Yamashita | 2025 May 20-Imagn Images

Denkey goal lifts high-flying FC Cincinnati past injury-depleted Toronto FC
Article content Kevin Denkey's first-half goal gave Eastern Conference-leading FC Cincinnati a 1-0 win over Toronto FC in MLS play Wednesday. Article content Article content The game was not as close as the scoreline indicated. Cincinnati could have had five goals had it not been for Toronto goalkeeper Sean Johnson. But it did reflect the gulf between the two in the standings. Article content Cincinnati (9-3-1) arrived 15 points ahead of 13th-place Toronto (2-7-4) in the standings and has now lost just one of its last eight league outings (6-1-1). And the visitors came as advertised — a well-drilled side rich in talent, able to move the ball around and beat defenders. Article content It could have been 3-0 at the break with Toronto's defence carved open several times. Article content A few kilometres to the east, the Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the Florida Panthers at Scotiabank Arena in Game 5 of their second-round playoff series while the Tampa Bay Rays took on the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Article content Attendance was announced at a season-low 14,018 with empty seats even in BMO Field's south stand that normally houses the supporters' groups, who have been at odds with the struggling club of late. Article content Cincinnati went ahead in the 18th minute via Denkey with its first shot on target. After Theo Corbeanu was dispossessed near the halfway line, the ball went to Denkey who danced through three defenders before curling a shot past Johnson for his seventh of the season — prompting boos to cascade from the stands. Article content Toronto fullback Raoul Petretta, who had needed medical treatment after tangling with DeAndre Yedlin minutes earlier, pulled up on the play and was substituted in the 20th minute. It went from bad to worse when Kobe Franklin, who replaced him, had to leave himself in the 36th minute after taking a knock in a challenge. Article content Cincinnati came close to doubling its lead in the 31st minute when defender Miles Robinson's header, off a corner from Brazilian playmaker Evander, hit the crossbar. Article content Toronto's first shot on target came in first-half stoppage time via Alonso Coello, whose volley from distance went straight at goalkeeper Roman Celentano. Article content Cincinnati tested Johnson early in the second half with dangerous shots from Evander and Gilberto Flores. Article content Lorenzo Insigne, fellow Italian Federico Bernardeschi and Norwegian forward Ola Brynhildsen had quiet evenings for Toronto, which brought on Tyrese Spicer, Derrick Etienne Jr. and Maxime Dominguez in the 69th minute in a bid to find some offence. Article content Toronto was coming off its first home win of the season, 2-0 over D.C. United on Saturday with Insigne scoring one goal and setting up another. Article content Since joining the league in 2019, Cincinnati has defeated Toronto more than any other opponent in MLS play. Cincinnati improved to 9-4-1 all-time against Toronto while head coach Pat Noonan is unbeaten against TFC (7-0-1), with Cincinnati's last loss to TFC a 3-2 decision in September 2021 at BMO Field.

Evander, Gerardo Valenzuela help Cincinnati beat Austin 2-1
CINCINNATI (AP) — Evander Da Silva Ferreira — known simply as 'Evander' — had a goal and an assist, Gerardo Valenzuela scored the go-ahead goal in the 76th minute and FC Cincinnati beat Austin FC 2-1 on Saturday night. Cincinnati (8-3-1) had its string of five consecutive wins, and six straight games without a loss, snapped with a 1-0 loss at New York City FC last time out. Valenzuela put away a one-touch finish — off a perfectly-placed feed that Evander chipped from the left side of the area and slipped over the head a defender to find Valenzuela at the back post — to cap the scoring. Austin FC (5-6-1) has lost three consecutive games by a combined score of 7-1 and has scored just three goals since a 1-0 win over St. Louis on March 30. Austin beat Cincinnati 5-0 to open the 2022 season in the only other regular-season matchup between the teams. Evander opened the scoring in the 12th minute with his seventh goal of the season. Lukas Engel played a one-touch pass from the left side to Evander for a finish from the edge of the area that slipped inside the post. Brandon Vázquez converted from the penalty spot in the 48th minute to make it 1-1. ___ AP soccer:
